Day One – Saturday March 15th - Developing “Me” Skills
8:30 - 9:00 am Welcome & check In
9:15 – 10:15 Morning Session Focus: Giving Great Live Presentations
Charlie Gandy, Melissa Balmer, Allan Crawford and members of the Pedal Love creative team, and a few trainees who volunteer in advance, will give a series of short 5 minute talks illustrating the TED speaking model focusing on the why of their passion for active living advocacy.

10:45 -12:00 Mid Moring Session Focus: Live Talk Coaching + Creation
Trainees will be broken into small groups that they will work with throughout the training. This time they’ll be collaborating on creating a live lunchtime talk. Each person will audition within the group to do a 5 minute talk. Peer coaching will be facilitated between each presentation. Note: we will be sharing with you ahead of time an overview of the TED model so that you can prepare a subject and images for your possible presentation.

12:30 to 1:00 Lunch + Live Talks
Selected speakers give their live talks. The entire group votes on their favorite and the winner receives a fun (if perhaps slightly cheezy) prize!
Developing “We” Skills & Building New Audiences
1:30 to 2:00 Afternoon Session Focus: Understanding Proactive Media Pitching
Melissa will go over the distinct differences between building successful public relations vs. proactively pitching the media to create successful media campaigns.
2:00 to 2:45 Focus: Building Successful Social Media Outreach Campaigns Via Storytelling
Melissa, Allan, and Maria Sipin will share successful strategies for building your storytelling skills across multiple social media platforms such as images, videos, blogs, emailers, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, webinars and Google hangouts to move beyond the choir for finding and connecting more meaningfully with your current audience and expanding your reach.
2:45 to 3:00 Break
3:00 – 4:30 Collaborative Session – Creating a Social Media & Media Outreach Campaign
Groups reform and select an approach and a hashtag for a collaborative campaign with the theme of May as National Bike Month as the topic. Not only will you use all of the tools of social media, but you’re asked to come up with creative media pitches as well to promote this campaign through more than an event. Groups will select a new person to represent the group and give a live 5 minute talk. Powerpoints are encouraged to illustrate your vision.

The next round of live presentations with another vote for the best one and of course another fun albeit cheezy prize!

Charlie briefly goes over what we’ve focused on today and Melissa goes over what we’ll be doing Sunday.

Day Two – Sunday March 16th
Participating in a Political Movement
8:30 - 9:00 Welcome
9:15 to 9:45 Morning Session Focus: Building Your Political Power
Charlie Gandy will give an overview of the active living movement in California and his role as a leader and trainer via his cross country workshops and the groundbreaking Thunderhead retreat trainings. As a basis for growing our 500 spokesperson campaign in California he’ll share key concepts he’ll present the tools and strategy
9:45-10:15 Facilitated Brainstorming Session On:
•Strategies to participate in/grow May as National Bike Month
•Place stories in the media/social media campaigns
•Recruiting others to the Active Living Plugged In trainings
10:00 -11:30 Creating Your Political Recruiting Live Talk
Groups rejoin and focus on coming up with the best strategy for accomplishing the above three targets. A new person will be chosen from the group to give a 5 minute presentation on each group’s strategy.
11:30 to 12:00 Political Recruiting Live Talks
Groups will present their campaigns and convince us why this approach would be a success.
And yes we’ll vote on the favorite!
12:00 – 1:00 Lunch
Training wrap up celebration! Certificates of completion will be handed out and we’ll announce the training’s overall winner who will receive a beautiful set of panniers from Carmichael & Co. U.S.A. similar to those shown at right (but in beige).
