Please join us for this free event, celebration and fundraiser!

What: With the California Bicycle Coalition's Bicycle Dreamer Award, the California Bicycle Coalition honors extraordinary achievement in advancing our dream: that one day soon all Californians will be able to ride bicycles safely and conveniently wherever they wish to go, and that, as a result, all our communities will thrive.

The California Dream Ride from October 30 thru November 4, touring the coast of California from Santa Barbara to San Diego, is the only fundraising ride raising awareness and funds to improve bicycling for all Californians.

Who: This year's inaugural "Bicycle Dreamer" award will be given to an original, fiercely talented young man - the Long Beach based journalist and communications expert Brian Addison for using his writing and social media skills to engage and educate the broader community of the rights and opportunities of bicycling.

The current Communications Director of Downtown Long Beach Business Associates, and Editor of LongBeachize.com (part of the publishing network which includes Streetsblog LA, Streetsblog California and Santa Monica Next), this year Brian won a coveted L.A. Press Club Award for the "Online Journalist of the Year." Brian won the award against stiff competition from major news outlets such as Variety, KCET, The Hollywood Reporter, Truthdig and the LA Times for his writing both at Longbeachize.com, and as first the Associate and then Executive Editor of the Long Beach Post. During his tenure at the LB Post in 2012, he and his then colleague Sarah Bennett, chose Long Beach bicyclists as "Person of the Year."

More About Brian Addison

After moving from the small mountain town of Big Bear to attend CSU, Fullerton, Brian subsumed himself in biopsychology. However, after having experienced the power of writing while volunteering in Tanzania, Brian shifted gears entirely and opted to get a Master of Fine Arts in writing from California State University Long Beach. He has since lived in Long Beach, residing with his partner Sam in Alamitos Beach. He welcomes all readers to introduce themselves, especially over a cup of coffee. (Or beer. Or. bourbon. Should you have the gall to go down that road with him).

About the California Dream Ride

The California Dream Ride raises funds and awareness for the California Bicycle Coalition's "Bikeways to Everywhere Initiative" which advocates for safe, comfortable, connected bikeways networks for all Californians. What are bikeway networks? Bikeway networks link every destination in a community through a network of quiet bicycle boulevards, bike paths, and protected bike lanes. The money you raise on this ride will support our work pushing for more state funding for bikeway networks, and helping local communities access those funds

The fully supported ride follows 265 miles of the California coast from Santa Barbara to San Diego and offers scenic riding, excellent food and comfortable accommodations, as well as an opportunity to go behind the scenes in the world of bicycle advocacy. The deadline to sign up is September 30th. Sign up today!
